April 15, 2014, BANGOR, ME – The Brew Fest at KAHBANG, part of the annual KAHBANG Festival in Bangor, Maine, is expanding in 2014 to feature a Homebrewers Expo in conjunction with its popular micro-brew tasting events. The Brew Fest consists of events on Friday, August 8th and Saturday, 9th on the Bangor Waterfront.

Event organizers are also excited to announce the attendance of the Brewing Network at this year’s Brew Fest – their first ever appearance in Maine. The BN will be recording a special episode of their show, The Session, live from the festival grounds, focused on the Maine brewing scene.

Often irreverent and always informative, the Brewing Network has been producing quality radio programming about craft beer and homebrewing for nearly 10 years. Their shows include Brew Strong, hosted by brewers/authors Jamil Zainasheff and John Palmer, and The Sunday Session, the original LIVE beer radio program. The Brewing Network has its finger on the pulse of the world beer industry, and has hosted a virtual who’s who of industry newbies and veterans on its shows.

The Brew Fest at KAHBANG is comprised of multiple events, including but not limited to:

The KAHBANG Epic Gathering Party on Friday, August 8th – a BBQ and Beer Event that combines special selections from two highlighted micro-breweries and some of the best local BBQ.

Things To Do: Oriental Jade Exhibits Photographs From Maine Chinese Archive

oriental jade maine

09/19/13 -The Oriental Jade is proud to host a selection of photographs of early Chinese immigrants to Maine in the early portion of the twentieth century. The photographs are on display now at the Oriental Jade restaurant in Bangor.

Over the past decade, the Chinese American Friendship Association of Maine, or CAFAM, has discovered many photographs depicting members of Maine’s Chinese community. The photos cover the time period between the 1890s through the 1950s. CAFAM donated those photographs to the Maine Historical Society as part of what has become the Maine Chinese Archive.

In 2011, as part of its ongoing effort to document the history of Maine’s Chinese community, CAFAM partnered with the Maine Humanities Council and the Maine Historical Society to select a dozen of the photos and exhibit them to the general public.

The idea was to loan the images to Chinese restaurants and other locations where they could be seen by the public. They are currently on display at The Oriental Jade Restaurant in Bangor with the hope that they will then rotate through other Bangor area locations.
